Can new batteries be taken on plane?

Carry-on luggage

* Spare lithium-ion batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage.

* Each spare lithium-ion battery must not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh).

* The total lithium-ion battery content of carry-on baggage must not exceed 2,000 Wh.

Checked baggage

* Lithium-ion batteries must not be packed in checked luggage.

* Devices containing lithium-ion batteries must be carried on the person or in carry-on baggage.

* The total lithium-ion battery content of checked baggage must not exceed 100 Wh.

Exceptions

* There are some exceptions to these rules for medical devices and electronic cigarettes.
