How do you replace a battery on 1992 Chevrolet Lumina?

Tools and Materials:

- New car battery (check your owner's manual for the correct size and type)

- Battery terminal removal tool (or a 10mm wrench)

- Adjustable wrench

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

- Cleaning brush (optional)

- Baking soda (optional)

- Water

Instructions:

1. Park your car on a level surface, turn off the engine, and set the parking brake.. Engage the parking brake to keep the car from rolling while you're working.

2. Open the hood of your car. Locate the release lever inside the car and pull it to open the hood. Prop the hood open with the support rod.

3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This is the black terminal. Remove the negative battery cable by using a 10mm wrench. Place it aside so it doesn't touch the positive battery terminal.

4. Disconnect the positive battery terminal. This is the red terminal. Use a 10mm wrench to remove the positive battery cable and place it aside.

5. Inspect the battery cables. Replace the cables if they are corroded or damaged. Replace damaged battery cables. Clean or replace corroded battery terminals and clamps.

6. Remove the old battery. There may be a hold-down bracket securing the battery. Release the hold-down bracket and remove the battery from the car.

7. Clean the battery tray.. Clean any corrosion from the battery tray with baking soda and water. Rinse the tray thoroughly and allow it to dry.

8. Install the new battery.

- Place the new battery in the battery tray.

- Secure the new battery with the hold-down bracket.

- Reconnect the positive battery terminal (red) first.

- Reconnect the negative battery terminal (black).

9. Test the battery.. Start your car and check that the battery light on your dashboard turns off.

10. Close the hood of your car.
