The distributor cap on a 1988 Chevrolet 5.7L engine has eight terminals, one for each spark plug wire. The firing order for this engine is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The terminals on the distributor cap are numbered counterclockwise, starting with number 1 at the front of the cap. Therefore, the location of the number 1 spark plug wire in the distributor cap is at the front of the cap, nearest the engine.
