How do you change a brake light on 2006 Kia Rio?

Materials Needed

- Replacement brake light bulb (check your owner’s manual for the correct size)

- Safety glasses

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Socket wrench

Instructions:

1. Park your car in a safe location, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake. Please make sure that your car is in a well-lit area so you can see what you are doing.

2. Open your trunk. There should be a small access panel on the inside of the trunk that will allow you to reach the brake light bulb. Remove the screws holding the access panel in place and set the panel aside.

3. Locate the brake light bulb. It will be located in a socket behind the brake light lens.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake light bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it away from the bulb.

5. Remove the old brake light bulb from the socket. Be careful not to drop the bulb.

6. Install the new brake light bulb into the socket. Press the new bulb into the socket until it clicks into place.

7. Reconnect the electrical connector to the brake light bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and push it onto the bulb until it clicks into place.

8. Replace the access panel and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.

9. Close your trunk.

10. Test the brake lights to make sure they are working properly. Get in your car and turn on the headlights. Press on the brake pedal and inspect the brake lights from outside of your car. Make sure that both brake lights are working properly and that they are not too dim or too bright.
