How do you check ABS codes on a International Truck?

How to Retrieve & Clear ABS Fault Codes with a Diagnostic Tool

When you connect a diagnostic tool to an International® truck equipped with an ABS system, you can view an extensive amount of information about the various parameters of that system. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you properly read and clear ABS fault codes.

1. Connect Your Diagnostic Tool:

* Locate the diagnostic connector. For most International® trucks, it’s usually found under the dashboard or near the steering column.

* Turn the ignition on, but don’t start the engine.

* Connect your diagnostic tool to the diagnostic connector.

2. Select Diagnostics:

* On the diagnostic tool, select the “Diagnostics” or “Faults” option.

* Choose “ABS” or “Braking System” from the list of available modules.

3. Read Fault Codes:

* Once the ABS module is selected, the diagnostic tool will start reading and displaying any active or stored fault codes.

* Each fault code is typically accompanied by a description of the issue.

4. Clear Fault Codes:

* After noting down the fault codes, you can clear them by selecting the “Clear” or “Erase” option on your diagnostic tool.

5. Confirm Clearing:

* Once you select the option, the diagnostic tool will usually confirm whether you want to clear the fault codes. Confirm the action by selecting “Yes” or “OK.”

6. Disconnect the Diagnostic Tool:

* After successfully clearing the fault codes, disconnect the diagnostic tool from the truck.

7. Retest the System:

* Start the engine and take the vehicle out for a short test drive while paying attention to any warning messages or unusual behavior of the ABS system.

* If the warning message persists, reconnect your diagnostic tool to check for any persistent fault codes.

Important Note:

* Ensure that you are reading the fault codes for the correct ABS module. Most trucks have separate ABS modules for front, rear, and/or trailer systems.

* When reading and clearing fault codes, follow the specific instructions provided in the diagnostic tool's user manual to ensure proper communication with the truck's ABS system.
