1. Locate the oil pan. The oil pan is located underneath the engine and holds the oil that lubricates the engine. On the 2013 BMW 318i, the oil pan is made of aluminum and is located at the bottom of the engine block.
2. Identify the oil drain plug. The oil drain plug is a 17mm bolt located at the bottom of the oil pan. The oil drain plug is usually made of metal and has a black or silver finish.
3. Prepare to remove the oil drain plug. Before you remove the oil drain plug, you will need to gather some materials. These materials include:
* A 17mm wrench
* An oil drain pan
* A funnel
* New oil filter
* New crush washer for oil drain plug
4. Remove the oil drain plug. Use the 17mm wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Be careful not to drop the oil drain plug into the oil pan.
5. Allow the oil to drain. Allow all of the oil to drain from the oil pan into the oil drain pan. This may take a few minutes.
6. Reinstall the oil drain plug. Once all of the oil has drained from the oil pan, reinstall the oil drain plug. Tighten the oil drain plug until it is snug.
7. Reinstall the oil filter.
8. Add new oil to the engine. Use a funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your vehicle's owner's manual.
9. Check the oil level. Use the oil dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
