Parts Needed:
-Running board lights with wiring harness
-Wire strippers
-Crimp connectors
-Electrical tape
-Drill
Instructions:
1. Identify the Power Source:
Locate the fuse box in your Tacoma. It is usually found under the dashboard. Look for the “ILLUMI” fuse.
2. Prepare the Wiring:
Unpack your running board light kit and take out the wiring harness. Separate the wiring into three sets: the left board lights, the right side lights, and the power/ground wires.
3. Connect the Power Wires:
Take the red power wires from your left and right board lights. Connect both red wires and attach them to the “ILLUMI” fuse slot.
4. Connect the Ground Wires:
Take the black ground wire from your left and right board light and connect them together. Then, attach this bundled ground wire to any grounded metal surface under the dash.
5. Install Board Light Wiring:
Run the board light wiring underneath your truck. For this, you will need to carefully use a drill to make some small holes in the undercarriage for the wires to go through.
Feed the running board light wires through these holes and pull them out from underneath your running boards.
6. Attach the Board Lights:
Attach your running board lights to their respective mounting brackets. Connect the left side light wiring to the left lights and the right side wiring to the right lights.
7. Secure the Wiring:
Secure all of the wiring and connectors using electrical tape. Make sure that the connections are tight and secure to prevent any flickering or malfunctioning of your running board lights.
Here's some additional information:
1. If your running board lights come with a switch or any additional accessories, refer to the specific wiring instructions provided by the manufacturer.
2. Make sure to turn off the engine before starting any electrical work.
3. If you are uncomfortable working with electrical components, consider hiring a professional to assist you.
4. Test the running board lights before securing the wires to ensure that everything is functioning properly.
