2. Crawl underneath your vehicle and locate the oil filter. On a 1998 Honda Civic EX, the oil filter is located on the bottom of the engine, just below the exhaust manifold.
3. Place an oil pan under the oil filter to catch any dripping oil.
4. Loosen the oil filter by turning it counterclockwise with an oil filter wrench. Be careful not to spill any oil.
5. Remove the oil filter and inspect the old oil filter gasket. Replace the gasket if it is damaged.
6. Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
7. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
8. Lower your vehicle and dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly.
