Ensure the key fob's battery is functional and has sufficient charge. If it's weak, replace it before continuing.
Step 2: Locate the Door Lock Cylinder
On the driver's side door, find the silver keyhole cylinder under the black rubber cover near the door handle.
Step 3: Insert Key into Cylinder
After removing the cover, insert your key into the keyhole cylinder and turn it counterclockwise. This disables the vehicle's theft-deterrent system and allows it to start.
Step 4: Enter Vehicle and Close Door
Get inside the vehicle and ensure all doors are closed properly.
Step 5: Press Brake Pedal Firmly
Put your foot on the brake pedal and apply firm pressure. Keep your foot on the brake throughout the starting procedure.
Step 6: Turn Key or Push Ignition Button
For models with traditional key ignition, turn the key clockwise while still holding down the brake pedal. For models with push-button start, press and hold the ignition button while pressing the brake.
Step 7: Release Brake after Engine Starts
Once the engine has started, release your foot from the brake pedal.
