1. Disconnect battery. Disconnect ground wire from battery to make sure no electrical current is flowing while working.
2. Remove air filter housing. You only have to move it out of the way, not completely remove. Loosen the intake hose clamp, and then remove bracket bolts. Move housing out of way.
3. Remove passenger wheel. This is to give access to the transmission speed sensor.
4. Remove wire loom. Carefully remove wire loom to expose sensor.
5. Remove connector wire. Disconnect wire connector from electrical sensor.
6. Remove mounting bolt. It holds sensor in place.
7. Remove defective speed sensor. Gently turn with fingers and take out of transmission housing.
8. Install new sensor. Apply clean transmission fluid on seals. Tighten sensor onto transmission slightly finger tight. Tighten with a wrench about half to three-quarters of a turn to compress O-ring seal.
9. Reattach wire loom. Be careful not to crush wires by replacing loom correctly.
10. Reinstall air cleaner assembly. Line bracket up. Tighten bolts to hold bracket.
11. Reattach battery. Reconnect the ground wire to battery terminal.
12. Start engine. Run engine briefly to check operation.
