How do you change a fuel filter for an 1985 Honda Accord?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Replacement Fuel Filter

- Fuel Line Wrench (optional)

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Pliers

- Safety goggles

- Rags

- Container to catch spilled fuel

Instructions:

1. Park the car in a safe location and turn off the engine.

Engage the parking brake.

2. Locate the fuel filter.

It is usually located under the car, near the fuel tank.

3. Relieve the fuel pressure.

- Remove the fuel cap to release the pressure in the fuel system.

- Look for the fuel pressure regulator. It is a small, cylindrical device with a vacuum hose attached to it.

- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the vacuum hose.

- Place a rag underneath the fuel pressure regulator to catch any spilled fuel.

- Start the engine and let it run for a few seconds until it stalls. This will relieve the fuel pressure in the system.

4. Disconnect the fuel lines.

- Use a fuel line wrench to loosen and disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter.

- Place a rag underneath the fuel line to catch any spilled fuel.

- Repeat steps above to disconnect the other fuel line from the fuel filter.

5. Remove the old fuel filter.

- Use a wrench to loosen and remove the mounting bracket that holds the fuel filter in place.

- Remove the old fuel filter from the bracket.

6. Install the new fuel filter.

- Insert the new fuel filter into the bracket and secure it with the mounting bracket.

- Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel filter and tighten them securely.

7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

- Check for any fuel leaks around the fuel filter and fuel lines. If you see any leaks, tighten the connections until they stop.

8. Replace the fuel cap.

- Replace the fuel cap and be careful not to over tighten.
