What rear axle is in a 2005 Chevy 2500HD?

The 2005 Chevy 2500HD came with two different rear axle options:

- 14-bolt full-floating rear axle

- 11.5-inch ring gear semi-floating rear axle

The 14-bolt full-floating rear axle was standard on all 2500HD models. It is a heavy-duty axle that is designed for towing and hauling heavy loads. The 11.5-inch ring gear semi-floating rear axle was optional on the 2500HD. It is a lighter-duty axle that is designed for light-duty towing and hauling.
