2002 s-10 Chevy 4x4 when the speedometer quits working your transmission will not shift?

The speedometer sensor on an S-10 is on the transmission housing. This sensor provides a signal to the computer that controls the transmission shifting, so if the sensor fails, the computer will not know when to shift gears. This can cause the transmission to malfunction and ultimately fail.
