Which battery cable to you re-connect first?

When reconnecting a car battery, the first cable to reconnect is the positive (+) terminal cable. This is because connecting the negative (-) cable first could cause a dangerous electrical surge if the positive cable is accidentally touched against a metal part of the car. By connecting the positive cable first, any electrical surge will be directed away from the battery and towards the vehicle's electrical system, where it can be safely discharged.
