Can citizens of Venice Italy own and drive automobiles?

Citizens of Venice, Italy cannot own or drive automobiles within the historic center of the city. The city is built on a series of islands and canals, and its narrow streets are not suitable for cars. Instead, residents and visitors rely on boats and public transportation to get around.

There are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, some residents with disabilities are permitted to have cars, and there are a handful of commercial vehicles that are allowed to operate in the city center. However, for the most part, Venice is a car-free city.

This makes Venice a unique and special place to visit. It is a city where you can walk or take a boat to explore its many attractions, without having to worry about traffic or pollution.
