How to change a heatercore on 1987 Chevy montecarlo?

Step 1: Gather the necessary tools and materials.

- Pliers

- Screwdriver

- Socket set

- 5/8-inch wrench

- 10mm wrench

- 12mm wrench

- 3/8-inch ratchet

- 2-foot piece of 3/8-inch-diameter PVC pipe

- 3 feet of 5/8-inch hose

- 2 hose clamps

- Heater core (Dorman 602-204)

Step 2: Drain the coolant.

WARNING: Coolant is toxic. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

- Open the draincock at the bottom of the radiator.

- Allow the coolant to drain until the level is below the heater core.

- Close the draincock.

Step 3: Remove the old heater core.

- Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.

- Remove the bolts holding the heater core in place.

- Remove the heater core from the vehicle.

Step 4: Install the new heater core.

- Insert the new heater core into the vehicle.

- Install the bolts holding the heater core in place.

- Reconnect the heater hoses to the heater core.

- Ensure that the heater core is properly seated in the gasket.

Step 5: Refill the coolant.

- Fill the cooling system with coolant until the overflow tank is full.

- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the coolant.

- Check the coolant level and add more if necessary.

Step 6: Test the heater.

- Turn on the heater and ensure that warm air is blowing into the cabin.

- If the heater is not working properly, check the following:

- Ensure that the heater core is properly seated in the gasket.

- Check the heater core hoses for kinks or blockages.

- Check the heater core inlet and outlet pipes for kinks or blockages.

- Check the blend door for proper operation.
