1. Gather your materials:
* New oil filter (Volvo part number 30678470 or equivalent)
* New oil (5W-30 synthetic is recommended)
* Oil drain pan
* Funnel
* Wrench
* Rags
2. Park your car on a level surface with the engine off.
3. Locate the oil filter under the hood, near the back of the engine.
4. Place the oil drain pan under the oil filter.
5. Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter.
* Be careful not to spill any oil.
6. Remove the oil filter and let the old oil drain out.
7. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
8. Screw the new oil filter onto the engine until it is snug.
9. Add new oil to the engine through the oil filler cap.
The S40 takes 5.2 quarts (5 liters) of new oil
10. Verify that there is not oil leaking from around the oil filter or oil drain plug before starting the engine.
