Instructions:
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the air filter housing.
3. Remove the upper starter motor mounting bolt.
4. Remove the lower starter motor mounting bolt.
5. Remove the positive battery cable from the starter motor.
6. Remove the starter motor from the engine.
Removal:
- Disconnect the battery as a precaution.
- Support the engine by placing a block under the oil sump with a block of wood.
- Remove the plastic under-engine tray (three bolts).
- The starter is located above the gearbox near the front right corner of the engine bay.
- Disconnect the positive and negative electrical leads to the starter.
- Remove the three Allen-headed 8mm bolts securing the starter to the gearbox.
- Carefully lower the starter motor.
Installation:
- Clean the mounting faces and the threaded holes in the gearbox.
- Apply sealant to the threads of the bolts.
- Carefully offer up the starter and ensure that the solenoid plunger engages correctly with the starter flywheel ring gear.
- Lightly tighten the bolts.
- Tighten the three 8mm bolts, then tighten the final bolt, until snug.
- Attach the positive and negative electrical leads to the starter.
- Reattach the engine undertray.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Reconnect the battery.
