The fuel solenoid on a Kohler engine controls the flow of gas into the carburetor. If the solenoid is faulty or damaged, it can cause gas to leak into the cylinder. When the solenoid is not working correctly, it's possible for the engine to continue taking on new gas, which may lead to flooding.
Idle Screw
The idle screw on a Kohler engine controls the amount of air that flows into the carburetor. If the idle screw is turned in too far, it will restrict the airflow and cause the engine to run rich, which can lead to gas leaking into the cylinder.
Carburetor Float
The carburetor float on a Kohler engine controls the level of gas in the carburetor bowl. If the float is damaged or stuck, it can cause the bowl to overflow and let gas leak into the cylinder. If your engine has a faulty float, you may also experience a lot of bogging down and sputtering when you use the mower or tractor.
Valve Seals
The valve seals keep oil from leaking into the combustion chamber. However, if the valve seals become worn or damaged, they may not be able to keep oil from getting into the combustion chamber, which can result in gas leaking into the cylinder. If your engine has worn or damaged valve seals, you may also experience blue or white smoke coming from the exhaust.
