How do I change oil on a 2007 Yamaha vstar 650 motorcycle?

Here's a step-by-step guide to changing the oil on a 2007 Yamaha Vstar 650 motorcycle:

Tools and Materials Needed:

- New oil filter (Yamaha OEM or equivalent)

- New oil (10W-40 motorcycle oil)

- Oil drain pan

- Funnel

- Socket wrench with 17mm socket

- Rags or paper towels

Step 1: Warm Up the Engine

- Start your Vstar 650 and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the oil and make it flow more easily.

Step 2: Locate the Oil Drain Plug

- The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the engine, usually on the left side. It is a 17mm bolt.

Step 3: Place the Oil Drain Pan

- Position the oil drain pan underneath the oil drain plug to catch the old oil as it drains out.

Step 4: Remove the Oil Drain Plug

- Use the socket wrench with the 17mm socket to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Be careful as the oil may be hot.

Step 5: Let the Oil Drain

- Allow all of the old oil to drain out of the engine into the oil drain pan. This may take several minutes.

Step 6: Replace the Oil Drain Plug

- Once all of the old oil has drained out, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.

Step 7: Locate the Oil Filter

- The oil filter is located on top of the engine on the right side. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.

Step 8: Remove the Oil Filter

- Use the socket wrench with the 17mm socket to loosen and remove the oil filter cap. Be careful not to spill any oil.

Step 9: Clean the Filter Housing

- Clean the oil filter housing using a rag or paper towel to remove any old oil or debris.

Step 10: Apply a Thin Coat of Oil on New Filter's Gasket

- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This helps create a proper seal.

Step 11: Install the New Oil Filter

- Screw the new oil filter into the housing, hand-tightening it until snug. Do not over-tighten it.

Step 12: Add New Oil

- Use the funnel to add the recommended amount of new oil to the engine (check your owner's manual for specific volume).

- Do not overfill.

Step 13: Check Oil Level

- Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

Step 14: Start the Engine and Let it Run for a Few Minutes

- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.

Step 15: Recheck Oil Level

- Recheck the oil level using the dipstick to make sure it is at the proper level.

Step 16: Dispose of Old Oil and Filter Properly

- Take the old oil and filter to a recycling center or dispose of them according to local regulations.

Note: It's important to follow the recommended oil change intervals specified in your Vstar 650's owner's manual. Regular oil changes help keep your motorcycle running smoothly and prevent premature engine wear.
