I need to clean out my carburetter on a 4.5hp lawn mower engine. Is this difficult do?

Tools needed:

- Screwdriver

- New fuel filter

- Pliers

- Small wire (like a paper clip)

- Carburetor cleaner spray

- Rags

- Replacement gasket (optional)

- Small bowl

Steps:

1. Shut off the fuel valve and allow the engine to cool down.

2. Locate the carburetor on the engine. It is usually a metal or plastic component located between the air filter and the engine block.

3. Remove air filter cover and air filter

4. Remove the fuel line from the carburetor. There may be a clamp holding the fuel line in place. Use pliers to loosen the clamp and pull the fuel line off.

5. If the carburetor has a fuel filter, it is highly recommended to replace the old one with a new one.

- Locate the fuel filter. It is usually a small, cylindrical component located between the fuel line and the carburetor.

- Remove the old fuel filter. Use pliers to loosen the clamps holding the fuel filter in place and pull the fuel filter off.

- Install the new fuel filter. Insert the new fuel filter into the clamps and tighten the clamps.

6. Remove the carburetor from the engine. There are usually four bolts that hold the carburetor in place. Use a screwdriver to remove the bolts and pull the carburetor off the engine.

7. Inspect the carburetor for damage. Look for cracks or holes in the carburetor body. If you find any damage, the carburetor will need to be replaced.

8. Clean the carburetor. Spray carburetor cleaner into all of the carburetor's passages. Use a small wire to clean out any clogged passages. Be sure to clean the jets, which are small, round openings in the carburetor.

9. Rinse the carburetor with clean water. Be sure to remove all of the carburetor cleaner from the carburetor.

10. Dry the carburetor with rags, allowing it to completely dry.

11. Reassemble the carburetor. Reverse the steps you took to remove the carburetor. Be sure to install a new gasket between the carburetor and the engine block, if necessary.

12. Reconnect the fuel line to the carburetor.

13. Reinstall the air filter.

14. Turn on the fuel valve and start the engine.

15. If any fuel is leaking, shut off engine, retighten fuel line.

Tips:

- Be careful not to damage the float when cleaning the carburetor. The float is a small, metal or plastic component located in the carburetor bowl. The float controls the fuel level in the carburetor.

- If the carburetor is badly damaged or worn, it may need to be replaced. A new carburetor can be purchased from a lawn mower dealer or online.
