Gather your tools. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, a flat head screwdriver, and a wrench.
Turn the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery terminal. The negative terminal is the black one and is marked with a "-" sign. Use the wrench to loosen the nut that holds the cable in place, and then use the flat head screwdriver to pry the cable off of the terminal.
Disconnect the positive battery terminal. The positive terminal is the red one and is marked with a "+" sign. Follow the same steps as you did for the negative terminal to disconnect the positive terminal.
Remove the battery hold-down bolts. There are two bolts that hold the battery in place. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove these bolts.
Take out the battery. Carefully remove the battery from the compartment.
To clean and re-install the battery, replace:
Battery
Positive terminal
Negative terminal and bolt
Hold-down Bolts.
