Step 2: Prepare the shifter.
- Park your Suzuki c50 on level ground and turn off the engine.
- Shift the gears into neutral and hold the clutch lever in.
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the shifter cover in place.
Step 3: Lubricate the shifter pivot bolt.
- Once the shifter cover is removed, you will see the shifter pivot bolt located at the base of the shifter.
- Use a few drops of lubricating oil on the bolt and then wipe away any excess oil with a clean rag.
Step 4: Lubricate the shift linkage.
- The shift linkage is the rod that connects the shifter to the transmission.
- Use a spray bottle or oil can to apply a light coating of lubricating oil to the linkage, coating all sides.
Step 5: Lubricate the shifter lever.
- The shifter lever is the part that you move when you shift gears.
- Use a few drops of lubricating oil on the pivot points and then wipe away any excess oil with a clean rag.
Step 6: Reassemble the shifter.
- Replace the shifter cover and tighten the screws.
- Release the clutch lever and test the shifting operation to make sure it is smooth and easy.
Tips:
- If you are unsure of what type of lubricating oil to use, consult your Suzuki c50 owner's manual.
- Be careful not to over-lubricate the shifter, as this can attract dirt and grime and make shifting more difficult.
- If you are unable to perform this maintenance yourself, take your Suzuki c50 to a qualified motorcycle mechanic.
