Who invented the petrol motor car?

There isn't one single inventor of the petrol motor car. It was the result of many individuals contributing over time. Here's a simplified timeline:

* Early 1800s: Nicéphore Niépce and Étienne Lenoir built early internal combustion engines, but they were not practical for vehicles.

* 1860s: Siegfried Marcus, in Austria, is credited with building the first working petrol-powered vehicle, but it was a prototype and didn't gain widespread attention.

* 1886: Karl Benz is widely considered the inventor of the first practical petrol-powered car. He patented his "Benz Patent Motorwagen" which featured a four-stroke engine and a simple chassis.

* 1889: Gottlieb Daimler, a rival of Benz, built a similar petrol-powered vehicle.

Therefore, while Karl Benz is often credited as the inventor of the petrol-powered car, it was a culmination of many innovators' work.
