Will bad fuel filter make engine die and not start?

A severely clogged fuel filter can absolutely cause an engine to die and then refuse to restart. If the filter is completely blocked, no fuel can reach the engine, leading to immediate stalling. Once stalled, the engine won't restart because it's starved of fuel.

However, it's important to note that a partially clogged filter might cause other problems *before* completely stopping the engine. These could include:

* Hesitation or sputtering: The engine might struggle to maintain a consistent idle or power.

* Reduced fuel economy: The engine has to work harder to draw fuel through the restricted filter.

* Difficulty starting (but not complete failure): It might crank but not fire, or take longer to start.

So while a completely blocked filter will definitely cause a no-start condition, a progressively worsening clog will usually give you warning signs beforehand. Other causes of no-start conditions should also be considered.
