The camshaft position sensor (CMP sensor) on a 1992 Jeep Cherokee (with the 4.0L engine) is located on the
passenger side (right side) of the engine, near the front of the cylinder head. It's typically mounted in the distributor housing, *but not inside the distributor cap itself*. You'll see a sensor with a single wire connector plugged into it.
