What do the upstream oxygen sensors on a 05 mustang?
On a 2005 Mustang, the upstream oxygen sensors (there are usually two, one for each exhaust manifold on a V6 or V8) monitor the air/fuel ratio in the exhaust stream before the catalytic converter. Their primary function is to provide feedback to the powertrain control module (PCM) so it can adjust the fuel delivery to maintain the stoichiometric ratio (approximately 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel) for optimal combustion and emissions control. This ensures efficient engine operation and minimizes harmful pollutants.
