What does a choke do on an engine?
In an internal combustion engine, a choke restricts the amount of air entering the engine. This is done to enrich the fuel-air mixture, making it easier to start a cold engine. Cold engines require a richer mixture because the fuel doesn't vaporize as readily at low temperatures. By limiting air, the fuel concentration increases, allowing for better combustion and easier starting. Once the engine warms up, the choke is gradually opened to restore the proper air-fuel ratio.
