* Slip-joint pliers: These are good for gripping the hose firmly while you twist and pull it off the fitting. Be careful not to crush the hose.
* Hose clamps pliers: If the hose is secured with clamps (the most common scenario), you'll need pliers specifically designed for hose clamps. These often have a screw-type mechanism to tighten and loosen the clamp. There are different types of hose clamp pliers; some are designed for worm-gear clamps, others for jubilee clamps, etc., so having the right type makes the job much easier.
* Screwdriver (possibly): In some rarer cases, the clamp might be secured with a screw. You'll need the right size screwdriver to loosen this.
Important Note: Before attempting to remove the hose, allow the engine to cool completely to avoid burns from the coolant. Also, have a container ready to catch the coolant that will drain out.
