Steering gear 1997 Ford T Bird?

The 1997 Ford Thunderbird uses a rack and pinion steering system. There isn't a separate "steering gear" in the same way some older cars had a recirculating ball system. The rack and pinion is the entire steering gear assembly. Parts within that assembly could fail, of course (rack, pinion, tie rods, etc.).
