How do you remove the engine from a 97 cougar?

1. Disconnect the Battery

Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical accidents during the process.

2. Remove the Radiator and Fan Shroud

Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses and the fan shroud to access the engine.

3. Disconnect Fuel Line

Disconnect the fuel line from the engine. Be careful not to spill any fuel.

4. Remove Engine Mounts

There are two engine mounts, one on the driver's side and one on the passenger's side. Remove them to disconnect the engine from the chassis.

5. Remove Transmission Bolts

Remove the bolts connecting the engine to the transmission. Be cautious, as the transmission might fall if you don't have a transmission jack or another support underneath it.

6. Remove the Starter

Remove the starter from the engine to make room for the engine hoist.

7. Attach Engine Hoist

Attach an engine hoist to the engine with chains or straps. Ensure that the hoist is secure before lifting the engine.

8. Lift the Engine

Slowly lift the engine with the hoist until it's clear from the chassis. Be careful not to damage any components while raising it.

9. Remove Transmission

With the engine out of the way, disconnect the transmission from the driveshaft and shift linkage. Then remove the transmission mount and lift the transmission out of the vehicle.

10. Reassemble

Once you've removed the engine and transmission, you can reassemble them in the reverse order of disassembly. Make sure to replace all of the gaskets and seals that were removed.
