Disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap. (Make sure to label them so you know which wire goes where).
Remove the distributor cap using a 7/16" wrench.
Step 2: Position the distributor.
Set the engine to TDC (Top Dead Center) compression.
Align the rotor in the distributor with the number one spark plug wire terminal on the distributor cap.
Align the oil pump drive shaft in the distributor with its slot.
Turn the distributor clockwise until the rotor drops down into the hole.
Step 3: Connect the spark plug wires.
Install the distributor cap.
Connect the spark plug wires to the correct terminals on the distributor cap. (Check the firing order for your engine).
Step 4: Check the timing.
Remove the timing light port.
Start the engine.
Connect the timing light to the number one spark plug wire.
Point the timing light at the timing marks on the engine.
Adjust the distributor until the timing mark aligns with the correct TDC mark on the engine.
Step 5: Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
Use a 9/16" wrench to tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
That's it! You've successfully set the engine timing and distributor match on your 350 Chevy.
