Step 1: Allow the vehicle to cool down completely. The thermostat is located near the top of the engine, and you can burn yourself if the engine is hot.
Step 2: Locate the thermostat housing. On the 2002 Dodge Stratus 2.7L engine, the thermostat housing is located on the front of the engine, just below the water pump.
Step 3: Place a drain pan under the vehicle to catch any coolant that may leak.
Step 4: Use a wrench to loosen the bolts holding the thermostat housing in place. There are two bolts on the top and two on the bottom of the housing.
Step 5: Carefully pry the thermostat housing off the engine. Be careful not to spill any coolant.
Step 6: Remove the old thermostat from the housing. The thermostat is held in place by a gasket. Use a pliers to carefully remove the gasket.
Step 7: Inspect the thermostat housing and the gasket for any damage. Replace the housing or gasket if necessary.
Step 8: Install the new thermostat in the housing. Make sure that the gasket is properly seated.
Step 9: Replace the thermostat housing on the engine and tighten the bolts.
Step 10: Fill the vehicle's cooling system with new coolant. Use a funnel to add the coolant.
Step 11: Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
Step 12: Turn off the vehicle and let it cool down. Recheck the coolant level and add more if necessary.
