97 GMC Jimmy Ignition Help When I insert the ignition key engine turns over but start till turn off and on several times to activate dash lites then it starts. Could this be switch.?

It is possible that the ignition switch is the cause of your problem. The ignition switch is responsible for sending power to the starter motor and other electrical components in the vehicle. If the ignition switch is faulty, it may not be able to send power to the starter motor properly, which would cause the engine to turn over but not start.

To test the ignition switch, you can try bypassing it. To do this, you will need to locate the ignition switch and remove the wires that are connected to it. Then, you will need to connect the wires together. If the engine starts when you do this, then the ignition switch is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Here are the steps on how to bypass the ignition switch:

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Locate the ignition switch. It is usually located on the steering column.

3. Remove the wires that are connected to the ignition switch.

4. Connect the wires together.

5. Try to start the engine.

If the engine starts, then the ignition switch is faulty and will need to be replaced.
