Instructions:
1. Preparation:
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the air intake assembly and throttle body.
- Drain the engine coolant (if necessary).
- Remove the spark plugs.
2. Locate and remove the timing chain cover.
- Locate the timing chain cover at the front of the engine.
- Remove the bolts holding the cover in place.
- Carefully pry the cover off, ensuring not to drop it into the engine.
3. Secure the crankshaft and camshaft
- Insert a breaker bar into the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the engine clockwise until the timing marks align.
- Insert a timing pin into the camshaft to hold it in place.
4. Loosen the timing chain tensioner.
- Locate the timing chain tensioner on the side of the engine.
- Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner bolt and remove the tensioner.
5. Remove the timing chain.
- Use pliers to remove the timing chain from the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
6. Replace the timing chain components.
- Install the new timing chain on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets.
- Make sure the chain is routed correctly.
- Install the new tensioner and tighten the tensioner bolt.
7. Reinstall the timing chain cover.
- Reinstall the timing chain cover and secure it with the bolts you removed earlier.
8. Reconnect the components:
- Reinstall the air intake assembly, throttle body, spark plugs, and any other components you removed during the repair.
9. Refill the engine coolant.
- Refill the engine coolant if it was drained during the repair.
10. Start the engine.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal and start the engine.
- Check for leaks and ensure that the engine is running smoothly.
11. Set the timing.
- Use a timing light to verify that the timing is correct.
- Adjust the timing if necessary.
