2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Fuel Tank Sending Unit Replacement

Tools and Materials Needed

* Replacement fuel tank sending unit

* Flat-head screwdriver

* Phillips-head screwdriver

* 5/16-inch socket wrench

* 7/16-inch socket wrench

* 10 mm socket wrench

* 12 mm socket wrench

* Safety glasses

* Gloves

* Fuel injector cleaner

* Shop rags

Instructions

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely.

2. Locate the fuel tank sending unit. It is located underneath the vehicle, near the rear axle.

3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This will prevent any electrical shock from occurring while you are working on the vehicle.

4. Relieve fuel system pressure. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes until it stalls. This will relieve fuel system pressure.

5. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support it with jack stands. Make sure that the vehicle is stable before proceeding.

6. Locate the fuel tank sending unit. It is located underneath the vehicle, near the rear axle.

7. Disconnect the fuel line from the sending unit. Use a 17mm wrench to loosen the fuel line fitting.

8. Remove the bolts that secure the fuel tank sending unit to the fuel tank. Use a 10 mm socket wrench to remove the bolts.

9. Remove the fuel tank sending unit from the fuel tank. Be careful not to spill any fuel.

10. Inspect the fuel tank sending unit for damage. If the sending unit is damaged, replace it with a new one.

11. Install the new fuel tank sending unit. Make sure that the fuel tank sending unit is properly seated in the fuel tank.

12. Reconnect the fuel line to the sending unit. Use a 17 mm wrench to tighten the fuel line fitting.

13. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

14. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.

15. Start the engine and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, the fuel tank sending unit has been successfully replaced.
