How do you install a timing belt and set on 2001 Daewoo Lonos?

Tools Required:

- Adjustable wrench

- Belt tension gauge

- Breaker bar

- Socket and ratchet set

- Timing belt tensioner

- Timing light

Instructions:

1. Park the vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any electrical shortages from occurring while you are working on the timing belt.

3. Remove the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is located on the front of the engine and is driven by the crankshaft. To remove it, loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and then slide the belt off of the pulleys.

4. Remove the timing belt cover. The timing belt cover is located behind the serpentine belt. To remove it, remove the bolts that hold it in place and then pry it off carefully.

5. Align the timing marks. The timing marks are located on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft gears. To align them, turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the 0-degree mark lines up with the pointer on the timing belt cover. Then, turn the camshaft gears counterclockwise until the marks on them line up with the marks on the timing belt.

6. Install the timing belt. Start by routing the timing belt around the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft gears. Make sure that the belt is seated properly in the grooves on the pulleys.

7. Adjust the timing belt tension. The timing belt tension should be between 40 and 50 N·m. To adjust the tension, use the timing belt tensioner to move the tensioner pulley either clockwise or counterclockwise.

8. Reinstall the timing belt cover. Once the timing belt tension is correct, reinstall the timing belt cover and the bolts that hold it in place.

9. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

10. Start the engine and check the timing. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, use a timing light to check the timing. The timing should be set to 0 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).

If the timing is not correct, adjust it by turning the distributor clockwise or counterclockwise. Once the timing is correct, turn off the engine and reconnect the spark plug wires.
