How do you replace thermostat in a 1993 Mazda mx6 v6?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Flathead screwdriver

- Phillips head screwdriver

- New thermostat

- Thermostat gasket

- Coolant

- Funnel

Instructions:

1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.

2. Open the hood of your car. Locate the thermostat housing, found on the upper hose leading to the radiator.

3. Place a drain pan under the thermostat housing to catch any coolant that may spill.

4. Use the flathead screwdriver to pry open the clamps on either side of the upper radiator hose. Disconnect the hose from the thermostat housing and allow the coolant to drain into the drain pan.

5. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing. This will expose the thermostat.

6. Remove the old thermostat and gasket from the housing. Be careful not to drop the thermostat into the drain pan.

7. Install the new thermostat and gasket into the housing. Make sure that the thermostat is facing the correct direction, with the spring-loaded side facing the engine.

8. Reinstall the bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place.

9. Reattach the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing and secure the clamps.

10. Fill the radiator with coolant using a funnel. Make sure to check the amount specified in the owner's manual.

11. Close the hood of your car and start the engine. Allow the engine to run for a few minutes until the thermostat opens.

12. Check the coolant level in the radiator and add more if necessary.

Note: If you are replacing the thermostat on a car that has been sitting for a long time, it is a good idea to flush the coolant system before installing the new thermostat. This will help remove any rust or debris that may have accumulated in the system.

Note: Be sure to dispose of the old coolant properly. It is toxic and should not be poured down the drain. Check with your local auto parts store for information on how to properly dispose of coolant.
