The crankshaft position sensor is located behind the crankshaft pulley. To access it, you must remove:
1. Crank pulley bolt cover.
2. Crankshaft pulley.
3. Crankshaft pulley spacer.
4. Crankshaft pulley seal.
2006+ Northstar Crankshaft Position Sensor Location:
- The crankshaft position sensor is located approximately at the middle of the engine, on the driver’s side. It is installed directly into the engine block.
Other notes for all Northstar V8 engines:
1993-1999 engines use one sensor bolted directly to the block in front of the cylinder head.
2000-2005 engines use two sensors bolted to the block on the sides of the engine, in-line with the camshafts.
A third sensor was used in some vehicles with the 4.6-liter engine between 1999 and 2003, and on all 2004-05 versions of the 4.6-liter. This sensor was installed above the starter solenoid.
2006-present engines use a single sensor bolted to the block on the driver’s side of the engine.
