Timing light
Adjustable wrench
10mm socket
Ratchet
Here is a general procedure of adjusting the timing for your vehicle.
1. Locate the distributor cap. The distributor cap is usually located on the side of the engine, near the front.
2. Remove the distributor cap by turning the clips that hold it in place.
3. Locate the rotor button. The rotor button is located inside the distributor cap, and it is connected to the distributor shaft.
4. Turn the crankshaft until the rotor button is pointing towards the number one spark plug wire. To turn the crankshaft, you can use a wrench to turn the bolt on the front of the engine.
5. Loosen the distributor hold-down bolt with the 10mm socket and ratchet.
6. Turn the distributor until the timing light indicates that the timing is correct. The timing marks are located on the timing belt cover.
7. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
8. Replace the distributor cap.
If the timing is set correctly, the engine should run smoothly and without any knocking or pinging sounds.
