Engine idle back at a stop until transmission is shifted into neutral?

This feature is called "Neutral Idle", and it is designed to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions by turning off the engine when the vehicle is stopped and the transmission is in neutral. This can be useful in situations such as waiting at a red light or in a traffic jam.

To enable Neutral Idle, the vehicle must be in Park, and the driver must press and hold the brake pedal. The engine will then turn off after a few seconds. When the driver releases the brake pedal, the engine will restart.

Neutral Idle is not available on all vehicles, and it may be disabled by the driver if desired.
