Step-1 Preparation
- Put on your safety glasses and make sure the engine is cool and turned off.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Pop the hood.
-Locate the alternator belt. It is a black belt that runs between the engine and the alternator.
Step-2 Remove the serpentine belt
1. Use a ratchet and socket to remove the tensioner bolt.
- The tensioner bolt is usually located near the top of the engine.
- Once the bolt is removed, the tensioner will loosen and you will be able to remove the serpentine belt.
Step-3: Remove the alternator belt
1. Loosen the alternator adjustment bolt.
- The adjustment bolt is usually located on the back of the alternator.
2. Remove the old alternator belt.
Step-4: Install the new belt
1. Place the new alternator belt around the pulleys.
2. Tighten the alternator adjustment bolt until the belt is snug.
3. Tighten the tensioner bolt until the belt is properly tensioned.
Step-5 Re-install the serpentine belt
1. Place the serpentine belt around the pulleys.
2. Tighten the tensioner bolt until the belt is properly tensioned.
Step-6: Double check your work
Ensure the belts are properly in their grooves.
1. Ensure the belts are not too loose or too tight.
2. Try turning the engine over by hand to ensure everything is working properly.
