Tools and Materials:
* 10mm socket wrench
* 13mm socket wrench
* Filter wrench
* New fuel filter
* Fuel filter cap wrench (optional)
* Safety glasses
* Gloves
* Rags
* Diesel fuel (if needed)
Instructions:
1. Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter on the 2001 Ford F350 Power Stroke 7.3L is located on the driver's side of the engine, near the back.
2. Remove the fuel filter cap. Use the 10mm socket wrench to loosen and remove the cap.
3. Drain the fuel from the filter housing. Place a rag under the filter housing to catch any spilled fuel. Use the filter wrench to loosen the fuel filter and drain the fuel into the rag.
4. Remove the old fuel filter. Once the fuel has drained out, use the 13mm socket wrench to loosen the fuel filter bracket bolts and remove the old filter.
5. Install the new fuel filter. Place the new filter on the filter housing and tighten the bracket bolts. Hand-tighten the fuel filter cap.
6. Prime the fuel system. Turn the key to the "ON" position for 3-5 seconds, then turn it off. Repeat this process 2-3 times to prime the fuel system.
7. Start the engine. Start the engine and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, replace the fuel filter cap and tighten it securely.
Tips:
* Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working on your vehicle.
* If you spill any fuel, clean it up immediately to avoid a fire hazard.
* If you have a hard time removing the old fuel filter, try using a filter wrench.
* If you don't have a fuel filter cap wrench, you can try using a pair of pliers to loosen the cap.
* It's a good idea to replace your fuel filter every 15,000-20,000 miles.
