1. Disconnect the battery. This is important to prevent any electrical shock while you are working on the starter solenoid.
2. Locate the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid is located on the side of the starter motor. It is a cylindrical-shaped device with two electrical terminals.
3. Remove the electrical connections from the starter solenoid. There will be two electrical connections on the starter solenoid: a small wire and a large wire. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the electrical connections in place, and then disconnect the wires.
4. Remove the starter solenoid mounting bolts. There will be two bolts that hold the starter solenoid in place. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts, and then remove them.
5. Remove the starter solenoid. Once the mounting bolts have been removed, you can remove the starter solenoid from the starter motor.
6. Install the new starter solenoid. To install the new starter solenoid, simply reverse the steps that you followed to remove the old starter solenoid.
7. Reconnect the battery. Once the new starter solenoid has been installed, you can reconnect the battery.
Replacing the Ignition Control Module
The ignition control module (ICM) is located on the passenger side of the engine, near the distributor. It is a small, black box with several electrical connectors.
To replace the ICM, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Locate the ICM.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ICM. There will be several electrical connectors connected to the ICM. Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the electrical connections in place, and then disconnect the wires.
4. Remove the ICM mounting bolts. There will be two bolts that hold the ICM in place. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts, and then remove them.
5. Remove the ICM. Once the mounting bolts have been removed, you can remove the ICM from the engine.
6. Install the new ICM. To install the new ICM, simply reverse the steps that you followed to remove the old ICM.
7. Reconnect the battery.
