Why wont car start unless using starter fluid and stay running?

1. Faulty Fuel Pump or Fuel Pressure Regulator:

The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. If the fuel pump is failing or the fuel pressure regulator is faulty, it can result in insufficient fuel pressure, causing the engine to stall or not start at all.

2. Clogged Fuel Filter:

A clogged fuel filter can restrict the flow of fuel to the engine, leading to starting problems and rough idling.

3. Dirty or Faulty Fuel Injectors:

Fuel injectors spray fuel into the engine's cylinders. If they are dirty or clogged, they may not deliver the correct amount of fuel, leading to starting issues and performance problems.

4. Faulty Ignition System Components:

The ignition system, consisting of spark plugs, spark plug wires, ignition coil, and distributor (in older vehicles), is responsible for creating the spark that ignites the fuel in the cylinders. If any of these components are faulty or worn out, it can cause starting problems and misfires.

5. Vacuum Leaks:

Vacuum leaks can cause the engine to run lean (insufficient fuel mixture) and result in starting issues, stalling, and poor performance.

6. Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM):

The ECM is the computer that controls various engine functions, including fuel injection and ignition timing. A faulty ECM can send incorrect signals, leading to starting problems and engine performance issues.

7. Blocked or Dirty Air Filter:

A clogged air filter restricts airflow to the engine, which can lead to starting issues and poor performance.

8. Battery or Starter Issues:

A weak battery or faulty starter motor can prevent the engine from cranking or starting properly.

9. Immobiliser Issues:

Some vehicles have an immobiliser system that prevents the engine from starting without the correct key or transponder. A malfunctioning immobiliser system can cause starting problems.

10. Fuel Quality:

Using low-quality fuel or fuel that contains water can also lead to starting issues and performance problems.

If you are experiencing starting problems with your car and it only runs when using starter fluid, it's important to have it diagnosed by a professional mechanic to identify the root cause and have it repaired.
