When you overtake another vehicle at night why should use your low beams?

You should use your high beams, not your low beams, when you overtake another vehicle at night. Using your high beams will improve your visibility and allow you to see potential hazards further ahead. However, when an approaching vehicle is within approximately 200 metres from you, switch back to the low beam position so as not to dazzle the oncoming driver.
