1. Turn the ignition ON without attempting to start the engine. This powers up the fuel pump but doesn't engage the starter motor.
2. Press and hold the fuel primer button repeatedly (usually located near the fuel filter). This helps fill the fuel lines and injector pump with fuel, forcing air out of the system. Continue pumping until you feel resistance or hear a clicking sound, indicating the system is pressurized.
3. Cycle the ignition ON and OFF a few times without attempting to start the engine. This allows the fuel pump to build up additional pressure in the system.
4. Try to start the engine. If the engine doesn't start immediately, repeat the priming process.
Here are a few additional tips:
- Make sure you're using the correct fuel type for your vehicle.
- If the fuel filter has recently been replaced or is clogged, it may need to be primed separately before attempting to start the engine.
- If the vehicle has been sitting for an extended period, the fuel system may need to be bled of air before it will start.
- If the engine still doesn't start after several attempts, there may be an issue other than insufficient fuel pressure. Consult with a qualified mechanic.
