When were petrol-run cars made?
The first petrol-powered car was built by Karl Benz in 1885 in Mannheim, Germany. The car, known as the "Benz Patent-Motorwagen," was powered by a four-stroke internal combustion engine and had a top speed of about 10 mph. By 1900, petrol-powered cars were being produced by several manufacturers in Europe and the United States. In the early 20th century, petrol-powered cars quickly became the dominant form of transportation, replacing steam-powered cars and horse-drawn carriages.
