How do you adjust timing 1993 Volvo 240?

To adjust the timing on a 1993 Volvo 240:

1. Remove the air cleaner and spark plug wires

2. Remove the harmonic balancer, which is located at the front of the engine. Disconnect the battery before doing this in order to avoid damage.

3. Rotate the crankshaft until it is at the 0 degree mark on the flywheel using the 22mm socket.

4. Install a new timing belt tensioner.

5. Install the new timing belt between crankshaft and camshaft sprockets.

6. Install a new timing belt tensioner.

8. Tension the timing belt.

9. Disconnect the battery ground and crank the engine over by hand.

10. Check the timing and ensure it is at the 0 degree mark.

11. If necessary, adjust the timing by rotating the distributor slightly. Replace the air cleaner and spark plug wires.

12. Reconnect the battery and start the engine.
