1. Locate the crankshaft pulley. It is located at the front of the engine, near the bottom.
2. Look for a small notch or mark on the crankshaft pulley. This is the timing mark.
3. There is also a timing mark on the engine block, near the top of the cylinder head. This mark should line up with the mark on the crankshaft pulley when the engine is at Top Dead Center (TDC).
4. To find TDC, you can use a piston stop or a dial indicator. Insert the piston stop or dial indicator into the spark plug hole of the first cylinder and slowly turn the crankshaft until the piston reaches the highest point in its travel. This is TDC.
5. Once you have found TDC, line up the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the engine block. This will ensure that the engine is properly timed.
